Description |
Although the phenomenon of superconductivity was discovered by Kamerlingh Onnes at Leiden about 100 years ago, it still excites the minds of researchers. The talk will trace the historical development in the field, emphasize the profound new ideas that it brought to 20th century physics and describe the profound challenges it poses for the 21st century. Remarkably, for a subject central to our basic understanding of nature, superconductivity also has important applications with the potential to transform our lives. |
