Description
I will present a general description of topological insulators from the point of view of the Dirac equation. From the calculation of Z2 indices and solutions of bound states near the boundary I will show that a modified version of the Dirac equation can provide a description of a large family of topological insulators. If time permits I will also discuss some minimal lattice models for topological insulators. Reference: Shun-Qing Shen, Wen-Yu Shan, Hai-Zhou Lu, arXiv:1009.5502v1 (2010)
