Implantation technique is one of the most effective methods to prepare stable and isotopically pure target for nuclear astrophysics experiments. A 22Ne (~9% abundance) implanted target with 0.05mm Ta backing have been prepared at TIFR, Mumbai, using an ECR based 400 kV accelerator. A 0.3 Tesla dipole magnet was used to separate the incoming ions and the mass resolution of the separator has been measured to estimate the mixing amount of other isotopes in the isotope of interest. Surface characterization of this implanted target has already been done at SINP, Kolkata, to identify the impurities which are present on the surface of the implanted target. Recently we characterized our target using 22Ne (p,gamma) 23Na resonance reaction with 851 keV proton beam at University of Notre Dame, USA, to know the distribution of 22Ne inside the backing as well as the target thickness. We also estimated the amount of 22Ne ion present inside the target by comparing the reaction yield with other known target. |
