Abstract: In this talk, we describe an o-minimal proof of a classical result of Carlos Simpson characterizing the subvarieties of the rank one Betti moduli space attached to a smooth projective algebraic variety whose image under the Riemann-Hilbert correspondence is also an algebraic subvariety of the de Rham moduli space. I shall also describe a p-adic analogue of this result. If time permits, I shall talk about ongoing work with Ananth Shankar and Anand Patel on a p-adic algebraization result for analytic maps into Shimura varieties. |
