Argonne National Laboratory, the first US Department of Energy national Laboratory, has the mission to create new scientific knowledge and provide scientific and engineering leadership for the grand challenge problems in energy. In this talk we will give an overview of some of the major scientific programs at Argonne including nuclear and particle physics, new materials discovery for energy and how high performance computing is beginning to deliver on the promise of predictive modeling and accelerated discovery of new materials.
