The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology is a new research institute in Japan with a brand new Graduate University offering a novel five-year doctoral program to a small group of top-quality students selected from across the world. OIST was created with generous government support to be a model for educational change in Japan, and has been built right from the ground up to foster independence and creativity in its students and researchers.
This presentation will describe our approach to education and research and provide an overview of the excellent faculty, world-class facilities, and the flexible graduate program, as well as a description of our current focus areas with particular examples of ongoing research.
