Description |
Consider a collection of particles evolving in time through ballistic
motion and inelastic collisions. What is the response of this system
to an instantaneous input of energy in a localised region? This
problem is the generalisation of the classic Taylor-Sedov problem of
the spreading of energy following a nuclear explosion. In this talk,
the exponents characterizing the long time behaviour of the above
problem will be obtained using scaling arguments. The results will be
compared with three recent experiments.
