Description
The Abelian Sandpile Model is a simple cellular automaton describing
the dynamics of a pile of sand under particle addition. It presents
Self-Organized Criticality and seems to display allometry. I will
present a number of deterministic protocols where patches emerge,
playing a crucial role in the description of the final
configuration. I will then propose a classification of these patches
by means of new, unidimensional, objects, the strings. The interplay
of these two classes of object will be investigated.
