Theoretical Physics Colloquium

PeV neutrinos from the propagation of ultra-high energy cosmic rays

Description
I will discuss the potential sources of high energy neutrinos and the
different efforts made to detect them. The possibility that the two
PeV neutrinos recently observed by IceCube are produced by the
interactions of extragalactic cosmic rays during their propagation
through the radiation backgrounds will be analysed, as well as the
actual relevance of the Glashow resonance for their detection. The
complementary aspects of cosmic ray, neutrino and gamma searches will
be discussed.
