A PRELUDE ON EXCEPTIONAL GROUPS

by Prof. Nikolai Vavilov (St. Petersburg State University, Russia)

Thursday, July 11, 2013 from to (Asia/Kolkata)
at Colaba Campus ( AG-77 )
Description
The lecture will cover some preliminaries necessary to
follow my lectures (and partly also the lectures by
Stepanov and Luzgarev) in the framework of the
ATM Workshop on Classical and Non-stable Algebraic K-Theory.
I plan to recall realisations of exceptional
root systems, relations among elementary generators,
specifically coefficients in the Chevalley commutator
formula, connections with non-associative algebras,
and the like.
This elementary lecture is in no way a summary of my
lectures next week, it is rather a gentle introduction
addressed to those who are familiar with the classical
groups, but feel less at home when it comes to the
exceptional ones.
