How well we Understand our Oil and Gas Reservoirs

by Dr. P. P. Deo (Institute of Reservoir Studies (IRS), ONGC, Ahmedabad)

at Colaba Campus ( AG - 66 (Lecture Theatre) )
Description
ABSTRACT:

Oil and Natural gas resides in the pore space of sedimentary rocks such as sandstone and carbonates. The extent of these oil or gas field structures can be from few km2 known as small fields to giant and super giant fields having extension of more than thousand km2. These reservoirs are complex both from structural and depositional point of view. Reservoir Characterization is the technique that creates a 3D working model of these fields/reservoirs incorporating the prevailing complexities. The model is created using data from across different scales: micro scale data of X-ray Diffraction and Scanning Electron Microscope to Macro scale data of seismic reflection. The talk will be focussed on the carbonate reservoirs. The objective of the talk is to address the reservoir complexity issue in carbonates and what attempts, we as industry take in order to minimise these uncertainties through integration of data.
