Description
I will discuss some recent challenges as well as advances made over the last few years in geophysics ranging from data acquisition systems to data modeling and interpretation of relevant in a variety of business conditions. These range from the traditional Oil and Gas business in their need to find and assess economical viability of hydrocarbon resources, to more general earth resource characterization (such as water) and monitoring of industrial operations using geophysical techniques developed primarily in the Oil and Gas industry. I will conclude with motivating that the role geosciences as developed in the hydrocarbon industry is more generally relevant in future energy technologies than often realized. However,  important innovations will need to happen and our industry has a unique role and opportunity to drive and facilitate these innovations. I will discuss how this is done in Shell and in particular how the new Shell R&D organization in India plays a role in this.
