Establishment and maintenance of epithelial apico-basal polarity depends on several conserved protein complexes. The transmembrane protein Crumbs, a central component of the Crumbs protein complex, has turned out to be involved in additional functions, such as tissue growth or morphogenesis and survival of photoreceptor cells. These studies define Crumbs as an apical hub to coordinate adhesion, polarity and signaling. Results are presented to further support this conclusion. |
