Description
Abstract:
Founded in 1991, ‘Society of Indian Record Collectors’ is engaged in
preservation, documentation and dissemination of recorded music available
in all formats. Recently few individuals and institutions, radio and TV
stations have begun to archive historical material available in their own
libraries and depositions. In addition to preserving the originals,
digitalization of the archival material is the modern tool in use. It is
inexpensive and useful for much broader outreach. In this presentation, I
shall try to take a short tour of these efforts, highlighting the
technological options available and the future directions leading towards
virtual archives.
