After a long indifferent period, the Nuclear Fusion enterprise is bursting at its seams- in fact, we are in a period of explosive growth. Though the government spending has gone up substantially, it is the private sector that has fueled the remarkable expansion in depth and breadth of the vast fusion landscape.
Surely the reasons for this historic transformation are many and not all of them are driven directly by science/technology. Innovative science, however, has played its fair part in exciting the entrepreneurs. What is fascinating is that newly created global interest and demand has stimulated deeper research and a slew of far-reaching ideas that could pave the road to economically viable fusion power.
In addition to sharing my overall perspective, I shall mostly dwell on the deeper physics/engineering ideas that may be fundamental to advancing fusion science.
