AdS space-time has been numerically observed to be (non-linearly)
unstable with respect to large classes of initial perturbations of
very small amplitudes. This behavior has been linked to the appearance
of growing (secular) terms in non-linear perturbation theory around
the AdS background, though the relation is far from obvious. I review
the generalities pertaining to such secular terms, resummation
strategies that endow perturbation theory with predictive power, and
describe applications of these techniques to the AdS case.
