Our group has discovered superconductivity of a high quality single crystal of Bi at 0.53 mK with a critical magnetic field of 50 mG. The discovery was made by observing a diamagnetic signal using a homemade ultra sensitive magnetometer which is housed in a state of the art copper nuclear refrigerator built at TIFR in 2011. This lecture will cover basic principles of adiabatic demagnetization and wet dilution refrigerator. We will describe methods used to produce and measure very low temperatures in our laboratory.
About the Speaker:
Mr. Anil Kumar holds a diploma in Electronics and Communication. He joined TIFR in 2009, and is a Scientific assistant (C) in the department of CMP&MS. His areas of specialisation are production and measurement of low and ultra low temperatures. Mr. Anil Kumar is currently engaged in setting up magnetization and transport measurement down to 100 microkelvin in their laboratory.
