Improving Seismic Isolation in LIGO using Ground-Rotation Sensors

by Dr. Krishna Venkateswara (Department of Physics University of Washington Seattle, USA)

Tuesday, November 14, 2017 from to (Asia/Kolkata)
at DAA SEMINAR ROOM ( A269 )
TIFR
Description
The use of sophisticated seismic isolation has enabled Advanced LIGO to be sensitive to lower
frequency gravitational-waves compared to initial LIGO, which has been crucial for the recent detections
of binary black-hole merger signals. The seminar will describe one of the key upgrades in Advanced LIGO,
the active seismic isolation subsystem, and how their performance is being improved using high-precision
ground-rotation sensors.
