Description
Absorption lines seen in the spectra of distant quasars allow us to probe background cosmology, matter and radiation distribution, galaxy formation and reionization history and associated feedback processes. The absorption lines also allow us to place interesting constraints on the variation of fundamental constants. In this talk the author will provide the basic framework of the problem and various results obtained till date. A brief summary will be provided on how the field is expected to grow in the era of extremely large telescopes like TMT.
