The active sun

The Sun being our nearest star provides astronomers an opportunity to study stellar physics and helps us in understanding various phenomena occurring on other stars as well. The study of the Sun is also important for life on the Earth, as apart from providing energy to sustain life on Earth, it can also cause severe storms on the Earth, referred to as space weather, which have a potential to cause extensive damage at the Earth.
