Description
GEM detectors are the modern micro-pattern detectors, which are successfully deployed in many high energy physics experiments. They are radiation hard and provide excellent timing and position resolutions. To increase the redundancy and for providing extra muon coverage, the CMS experiment is being instrumented with large size GEM detectors in the forward region. In this talk, I will summarise the fabrication and quality control aspects of these detectors, besides an overview of the indigenous development of GEMs in collaboration with a local industry.

About the Speaker:

Ashok Kumar received his Ph.D. from Panjab University in 2007, for his work on development of HCAL detector modules for the CMS experiment. He joined Delhi University in 2008, where he is currently an Assistant Professor. His research fields of interest are Higgs and its Exotic decays and relevant detector instrumentation. Currently, he is involved in developing GEM detectors for the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. The Delhi University has successfully fabricated and delivered good quality large size GEM detectors under his leadership as the Production Site Manager. He is also involved in indigenously developing and qualifying large size GEM foils using local industry in India.
