About the Speaker: 
Dr. Soumya Swaminathan received her M.B.B.S. from the Armed Forces Medical College in Pune, M.D. in Paediatrics from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi and a post-doctoral medical fellowship at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. Her areas of interest are paediatric and adult tuberculosis (TB), epidemiology and pathogenesis, and the role of nutrition in HIV-associated TB. She brings with her over 30 years of experience in not only clinical care and research but also leadership at national and international level. Her career has been centred around bringing science and evidence-based practice into health policymaking. In the recent times, she served as Deputy Director General of Programmes (2017-19) and Chief Scientist (2019-22) at the World Health Organization (WHO). Dr. Swaminathan comes with a wealth of accolades including publishing over 350 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, elected Foreign Fellow of the US National Academy of Medicine, and three science academies in India.
