Theoretical Physics Colloquium

The Wjj Anomaly at CDF: Who Ordered That?

by Prof. Sreerup Raychaudhuri (TIFR)

Description
Recently the CDF Collaboration at Fermilab has reported a significant
deviation from the Standard Model predictions which appears to be due
to the production of a new particle of mass around 145 GeV, which
cannot be the Higgs boson. Reactions to these have varied from extreme
scepticism to unquestioning belief that new physics has been
found. After a brief introduction to the Tevatron, the CDF findings
will be explained in context and then a summary of the many
theoretical speculations about this signal will be presented, with
focus on a solution involving an extra dimensional model.
