Stimulated Raman Adiabatic Passage : Transfer between Quantum States to Perfection

by Prof. Klaas Bergmann (Department of Physics and OPTIMAS Research Center Technische Universität Kaiserslautern, Germany)

Wednesday, November 23, 2011 from to (Asia/Kolkata)
at Colaba Campus ( AG-66 )
Description
Rather unexpected consequences may arise, when quantum systems (such as atoms or molecules) are simultaneously exposed to multiple coherent radiation field. The STIRAP method (Stimulated Raman Adiabatic Passage) succeeds in transferring (almost) 100% of the population of a given quantum state to another chosen quantum state or a coherent superposition of quantum states. The experimental success of the STIRAP process will be demonstrated, the basic elements of the underlying physics explained and some current applications mentioned.
