ASET Colloquium

ELECTRON MICROSCOPY AT TIFR

by Dr. Shashank C Purandare (DCMP & MS, TIFR)

Friday, April 27, 2012 from to (Asia/Kolkata)
at Colaba Campus ( AG-66 )
Description
Over the last few years TIFR has acquired few high end Electron Microscopes. These include TITAN, a 300KV Aberration corrected Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM), ULTRA55 Plus, a high resolution Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FESEM) and LS-10, an Environmental Scanning Electron Microscope (ESEM). In this talk I will describe the fascinating journey of electron Microscopy from its infancy to current state of art in our quest to see smallest of the smaller things. The talk will cover the basics of Scanning and Transmission electron microscopes, including the Environmental SEM, various components of microscopes and its applications for materials characterization. The talk will also try to de-mystify the aberration correction technique.
