Description
The idea of science, technology and innovation need to be seamlessly integrated is gathering momentum in India due to its emergence as a global innovation hub. This is also supported by the proposed 2013 Indian Science, Technology & Innovation Policy and declaring the decade 2010-20 as the Indian Decade of Innovation. India was not famous for innovation until recently. There used to be a joke that around 500 AD, India invented the number zero—and that was how many innovations Indians developed thereafter. No longer can anyone say that. Smart Indian organizations have come up with new technologies based on science. With large skills base and human talent, India is emerging as a global innovation hub with its ability to produce world-class products and services. Integration of science, technology and innovation would make India more competitive and lead to accelerated inclusive growth improving social well-being. This talk provides several examples of global and Indian academic institutions and researchers who have been able to successfully integrate science, technology and innovations in their work. I will present new ideas that are emerging on the cost-conscious frugal science.
