Description
Structured composite materials, known as Metamaterials, have become popular for their novel properties such as negative refractive index that are not naturally available. Here we discuss the design, microfabrication and properties of impedance matched metamaterials that
have perfect absorption via electromagnetic resonances at a desired frequency. Measurements of multi-band absorption from dipole and multipole resonances over the infra-red spectrum will be presented. Controllable, active metamaterial absorbers and their applications will
also be discussed.
