Description |
The Large Area X-ray Proportional Counter (LAXPC) is one of the primary instruments on Astrosat, the first Indian astronomy satellite. LAXPC detectors are designed to observe X-rays in energy range of 3-80 keV. In order to understand the response of LAXPC detectors, simulations using GEANT4 were performed. The simulations were validated using observations in thermovac with radioactive sources, which showed good agreement. The simulations were then extended to estimate the detector background, efficiency, effective area and field of view. Finally, the response matrix of the detectors was calculated and used to simulate the expected results from different astronomical sources. |
