Description
Networks such as LinkedIn and Facebook have spurred enormous and interdisciplinary research in connections and networks. The talk focuses on selected applications of connectedness and network methods in corporate finance research. Specific topics include using text data to recalibrate competition among firms, using spatial methods to characterize competition between mutual funds, using community detection methods to understand partnerships between venture capitalists, calibrating financial institution interconnectedness to understand systemic risk, and some insights on whether the type of connection rather than the connection matters using peer to peer lending data and data on corporate frauds.
