Over a few decades, the importance of electronic communication and the internet has increased significantly. The web has a greater impact on communications and society than perhaps any other technology. This impact is studied through the technique of Webometrics. In the present talk, we will discuss the webometric analysis of library websites in the field of astronomy and astrophysics at national and international level. The presentation will include a study of how various Web Impact Factors can be calculated on the basis of the web links to understand the importance of each site. Different Webometric ranking methods such as Web Impact Factor (WIF) Ranking, WISER Ranking, Google Page Rank and Alexa Traffic Rank commonly used for the websites ranking will be discussed. Webometric analysis, various impact factors and ranking of library website helps to identify the importance of website design, its content, size, usability and accessibility. The study should help in creation of more effective websites for dissemination of information through internet. |
