ASET Colloquium

Research and development on high purity materials: Challenges and opportunities

by Dr. Vimal Kumar Jain (Chemistry Division, BARC)

Description
Abstract:
Preparation, characterization and application of high purity materials
constitute a relatively new and dynamically growing area of material
science. High purity materials are perceived differently by different
scientific communities; and the one which will be covered in this
presentation are those relevant to electronic industry. Various aspects,
particularly purification methods, associated with high purity materials
will be discussed. Purification of strategically important elements (e.g.,
Ga, As, In, Sb, Ge), synthesis and purification of organometallic
compounds (Me3Ga, tertiary arsines and stibines) and the chemistry of
single source molecular precursors for deposition of metal chalcogenides
(e.g., SnSe, Sb2Se3, Bi2Se3, etc.) will be covered. The latter family of
materials constitutes an important class of semiconductors used in diverse
electronic and optoelectronic devices. Future directions in this area will
be discussed.
