ASET Colloquium

Rocket Science for Rural development

by Prof. Anil Rajvanshi (Director, Nimbkar Agricultural Research Institute, Phaltan, Maharashtra)

Friday, April 30, 2010 from to (Asia/Kolkata)
at Colaba Campus ( AG-66 )
Description
Around 60% of rural population in India still lives in primitive conditions. They do not have electricity, cook in age-old traditional cook stove and have no potable drinking water. Somehow the modern technology has not touched their lives. There is a need to improve their quality of life and bring them in the mainstream of development, without which India cannot join the developed nations ranks. It is the thesis of the author that very sophisticated science and technology is needed in solving the rural problems and improving the quality of life of rural population.

The talk will focus on existing rural problems and their possible solutions using high science and technology. Dr. Rajvanshi will also highlight the existing R&D going on in this area in his research Institute NARI.

Finally it is suggested that in this Dr. Bhabha Centenary year, TIFR may like to revise its mandate so as to work on the use of sophisticated tools of science and technology for rural upliftment.
