Description |
Axions are very low-mass bosons motivated by the Peccei-Quinn mechanism to explain CP conservation in QCD. At the same time the axion is an excellent cold dark matter candidate that is receiving a lot of renewed attention. The galactic dark matter should be thought of as classical oscillations of the axion field rather than a gas of particles. These oscillations can be picked up with a suitable "antenna" if tuned to the axion mass. We review the motivation for axion dark matter and the fast-growing landscape of search projects, including the MADMAX dielectric axion haloscope that is being developed in Munich. |
