Description

Within the framework of modified gravity, we show that it is possible to construct a wide class of exact Lorentzian wormholes without violating the Energy conditions. We provide examples of such wormholes in the framework of two modified theories of gravity- Eddington-inspired Born-Infeld (EiBI) gravity and scalar-tensor gravity. We study the matter content of the wormholes in detail. In particular, we investigate the role of the metric as well as the theory parameters in obtaining the wormholes satisfying the energy conditions. Also, we look at the traversability issue of the wormholes. Finally, gravitational lensing by the scalar-tensor wormholes and its possible link with the energy conditions are explored, in the context of scalar-tensor gravity.
