Description
Stochastic models of aggregation and fragmentation predict interesting phases, including a ‘condensate’ state in which a single site holds a macroscopic number of particles. The time evolution towards this state is described by coarsening theory and scaling, but with a twist. The local state while coarsening is very different from the steady state: the condensate shows giant fluctuations, although it is quite well behaved in steady state.
