Description |
It is an interesting and remarkable fact that almost every Nobel-prize-winning piece of work in Experimental Physics has been carried out on apparatus which has been designed and developed by the physicist in question, be it Raman, Mossbauer, or Binnig. This makes the question of how we build an instrumentational base for cutting-edge research in India relevant. I will discuss this in the context of several hi-tech instruments (Scanning Probe Microscopes, Chemical Vapor Deposition, and Physical Properties Measurement Systems among others) which my team has developed for research in nano-science, materials and condensed matter physics. The talk will discuss the viability of the resulting ecosystem for research at the international level. About the Speaker: Dr. Deshdeep Sahdev is a Professor of the Department of Physics at IIT Kanpur, Member of the Expert Advisory Group, the Department of Science and Technology (DST), and Director of Quazar Technologies, New Delhi. He also served earlier on the Technology Development Board, Government of India. |
