Random Interactions

Collective relaxation of magnetization in magnetic molecular solids

Description
The quantum mechanical magnetization dynamics of magnetic molecular solids are very well understood at the single molecule level. This is not so for the dynamics of the full solid. The talk will discuss how the dynamics changes from coherent tunneling to incoherent relaxation when environmental interactions are included, and how intermolecular dipole fields affect the collective relaxation. Results of preliminary Monte Carlo simulations will be presented, and interpreted via a set of rate equations.
