There is evidence of a significant evolution in the galaxy properties around the time of cosmic noon. Since galaxies and their central supermassive black hole (SMBH) co-evolve, understanding of the evolution of SMBH over these redshift could give crucial insights into galaxy evolution. However, past multi-wavelength AGN studies were unsuccessful in disentangling the nuclear emission from the stellar emission at these redshifts. JWST's high resolution infrared imaging has now made it possible to separate these components and study the nuclear emission from AGN which is dominated by the emission from the "torus" structure made of dust and gas, predominantly emitting in the mid-infrared. In this talk, I will give an overview of the instruments onboard JWST along with early public programs. I will then outline our methods to study the evolution of AGN properties as a function of redshift using a large sample of AGN formed by combining data from multi-wavelength surveys and high resolution IR imaging. Finally, I will present the preliminary results from our study of 92 X-ray AGN sources in the EGS field, and conclude with future direction of such studies. |
