Abstract:
The talk will provide glimpses of changes over time in photographic camera equipments, including transformation from predominately analog film cameras usage to digital cameras by professional photographers. The talk will cover technical aspects of photographs taken over 40 years, as a photojournalist and an editor, who started career as a freelance specialising in street photography to becoming photo editor at prominent national newspaper, focussing on national events and politics, leading to specializing in celebrity stories and scoops. Speaker is currently heading the Dilip Piramal Art Gallery at The National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA), Mumbai, organizing over 250 exhibitions, photo talks, and workshops, while managing photography for NCPA events.


About Speaker:
Mukesh Parpiani is a renowned photo-journalist, having had an active media career of over 30 years. 

Parpiani took up the cause of popularising photography as an art form when he joined the NCPA. Since then he has organised several exhibitions in the gallery space. These exhibitions have showcased the individual works of established photographers but also that of budding students from different institutes of the city. 

Before joining NCPA, He has worked with The Daily and been the Photo Editor at The Indian Express and the Mid-day, where he curated three exhibitions for The Daily and The Indian Express in 1989, 1990, and 1991. With over 40 years as a photojournalist and an editor, He had begun his career as a freelancer, later joined The Daily in 1981, where he specialised on street photography. In 1990, He became the photo editor at The Indian Express, focusing on national events and politics, and then at Mid-Day, specializing in celebrity stories and scoops. 

Parpiani is passionate about photography and even more so about popularising it among the public at large. He believes in showcasing diversity of talent, promoting new ideas and developing the gallery as a creative space for the exploration of the multiple dimensions of photography.
