Description
This will include an overview of the dye-sensitized solar work that my students have been conducting for the past few years. We have been concentrating on microstructure modifications to create dual-size-scale porosity to assist in molecular charge transport in the electrolyte and therefore  optimize the performance of these solar cells. The battery work is new work conducted this year at GE during my sabbatical here in India. This part is mostly crystallographic in nature, looking at how we can measure the width of the conduction plane in one of the key sodium conduction electrolyte materials. We need cheaper solar cells AND batteries to really make a revolution in collecting and using renewable power in the near future.
