Theoretical Physics Colloquium

The BTZ black hole and Luttinger Liquids

by Balachandran Sathiapalan (Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Chennai)

Tuesday, October 20, 2009 from to (Asia/Kolkata)
at Colaba Campus ( AG-69 )
Description
The "AdS/CFT correspondence" developed in String Theory has possible applications in other areas including Condensed Matter Physics. There have been attempts to relate calculations in "strongly correlated" ondensed matter systems to simpler calculations in gravity. This talk will describe some of these attempts and then focus more on the connection between 1+1 dimensional systems (Luttinger Liquids) and 2+1 gravity (BTZ black hole).
