Distant supernovae are observed to be fainter than what is predicted by the standard cold dark matter model. The concordance model explains this by proposing that the Universe is accelerating, and the acceleration is caused by a cosmological constant or a dark energy. Alternate explanations of the supernova data include a modification of general relativity at large scales, or the presence of large-scale inhomogeneities. In this talk I report the modeling of supernova IA observations by exact inhomogeneous solutions of Einstein equations. These models can be observationally distinguished from dark energy models through real-time cosmological tests such as redshift drift and cosmic parallax. Such tests could become possible through future missions such as CODEX and GAIA. I will report analysis of redshift drift for inhomogeneous models and compare the results with those for the standard model. |
