Abstract: Recently, a class of materials, which includes graphene and topological insulators, has been discovered whose low-energy behavior is controlled by quasiparticles which obey a Dirac-like equation. Such quasiparticles, in contrast to their conventional counterparts in ordinary metals which obey Schrodinger equation. exhibit a variety of unconventional features which were predicted for relativistic Dirac electrons in the early days of quantum mechanics but have never verified experimentally. In this talk, I shall chart a few of these properties, show how they modify the behavior of junctions made out of these materials, and discuss their experimental consequences. |
