ASET Colloquium

Ancient Astronomy and Human Intellectual Growth

by Prof. Mayank N. Vahia (DAA, TIFR)

Friday, November 2, 2012 from to (Asia/Kolkata)
at Colaba Campus ( AG-66 )
Description
We discuss evidence for various aspects of astronomy in India from the earliest period. We show that these records have information of some very interesting aspects of human intellectual growth. Records of ancient eclipses shows some significant deviation in our understanding of the Earth - Moon system that is not obvious from modern studies. Towards the end, we use this map of evolution of astronomical and other ideas in India and the world to propose a study of the diffusion of ideas and differential evolution of human thought over the millenniums.
