The Hunt for Dark Matter

by Dr. Basudeb Dasgupta (Ohio State University)

Description
There is overwhelming evidence for invisible mass in our Universe at
almost all astrophysical scales, unexplained by known particles. A new
particle, with weak-scale annihilation cross sections to known
particles, would naturally explain its observed abundance. This has
motivated a comprehensive search for the particle identity of this
``Dark Matter''. In this talk, we review the accumulated evidence for
Dark Matter, describe efforts towards identification of its particle
nature - especially some new ideas and recent tantalizing hints for
Dark Matter, and conclude with an outlook for the future.
