iBiology: Bringing Leading Life Scientists to India Through the Webs

by Dr. Karen Dell (Editor, iBiology.org)

Friday, November 22, 2013 from to (Asia/Kolkata)
at Colaba Campus ( AG-66 )
Description
Seminars and lectures constitute an important aspect of scientific communication, but many leading life scientists from the US and Europe travel infrequently to India, and then speak at a limited number of institutions. iBiology.org is seeking to make the research and ideas of leading scientists accessible to everyone around the world for free. On our new website iBiology.org, you can watch ~85 research talks across all fields of biology (called iBioSeminars); the list of scientists is impressive and includes many members of the US National Academy of Sciences and Nobel Prize winners. We also offer short (<15 min) talks on topics such as how famous discoveries were made, science and society, careers, advice, and education (iBioMagazine talks). Finally, we have just launched a new section called iBioEducation, which provides materials for both self-learners and educators, from high school to graduate school. We also have produced our first course on light microscopy. While textbooks focus on facts, iBiology videos seek to convey the excitement of modern biology and the process by which scientific discoveries are made. iBiology promises to be valuable for Indian life science education at all levels and we hope to increase our connections with Indian scientists and educators to work together on specific projects.
