Description |
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN will take the world to a new level in its understanding of the structure of matter and the workings of the Universe. Among the primary scientific objectives will be the origins of particle masses and of matter itself, the composition of dark matter, and the nature of the quark-gluon plasma that filled the Universe when it was a fraction of a second old. After the first collisions at the end of 2009 and with the higher-energy collisions planned for 2010, a new stage in humankind's exploration of the fundamental laws on Nature is poised to begin. |
