QED in 2+1 dimensions is interesting as a function of the number of flavors N of massless 2-component fermions. When N is odd, there is parity anomaly while this can be cancelled by suitable regularization for even N. I will present such a parity-covariant lattice regularization. Using this, we studied an unsettled issue of whether bilinear condensates arise via spontaneous breaking of flavor symmetry when N is below a critical value. I will present results in this regard by invoking random matrix theory. |
