Description
Biomedical research in oncology have followed two major pathways. A reductionist approach delving deeper into smaller and smaller fraction of the whole and second larger and larger database being churned. Unfortunately, the impact of this activity in cancer clinic has been far less than expected. There is an urgent need to revisit our assumption. The pivotal step in cancer management that decides who wins the host or the cancer is “metastasis”. There are innumerable studies in vitro and in vivo that have explored the mechanism of metastasis. But unfortunately, correction of these mechanisms have not yielded the desired result. We at TMH have focused on when does metastasis occur rather than how does it occur. Our studies have unveiled the importance of act of observation and its impact on Biology of Cancer. We will present clinical and laboratory data to evaluate the impact of act of observation and its potential application in preventing metastasis.
