Abstract: "I will present the results of studies made using data from a large GMRT survey of the neutral hydrogen in nearby dwarf galaxies. The physical conditions in these galaxies are similar to that expected in the small primordial objects which merged to form the large galaxies in the local universe. Studies of nearby galaxies hence allow us to better understand the objects at the base of the galaxy hierarchical formation tree. In this talk I will use the GMRT data, along with complementary optical and UV observations from other telescopes to understand the distribution of gas and dark matter, as well as their connections with the process of conversion of gas to stars in these objects." |
